Megan Amos

FRENCH HORN PLAYER AND TEACHER IN COLUMBUS, OHIO
Megan Amos joined the Columbus Symphony as Principal Horn in February of 2024. Megan has played with the CSO as a substitute musician since 2018 including two temporary appointments in her current role. Previously, Megan was the Principal Horn player of the Toledo Symphony from 2019-2024 and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic from 2018-2019. Additionally, Megan frequently performs as Guest Principal Horn with the Detroit Symphony and Promusica Chamber Orchestra. In May of 2019, Megan won the grand prize in the Susan Slaughter Solo Brass Competition at the bi-annual International Women’s Brass Conference in Phoenix, AZ.
Megan is very passionate about incorporating music into her community and has participated in projects on both local and international scales. While living in Boston, Megan introduced hundreds of elementary students between the ages of 3 and 7 to the horn by incorporating music and literature in musical-storytelling programs. In May of 2017, Megan travelled to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia with the Educational Bridge Project where she performed many solo recitals, taught adolescent music students, and gave lectures and demonstrations on horn playing.
Megan has been a very active educator throughout her career and currently teaches in her home studio in German Village in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to teaching privately, she held the position of Assistant Conductor of the Junior Repertory Orchestra and Preparatory Winds of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. Accomplishments of Megan’s students include acceptance into District Level and All State level bands and orchestras, merit based music college scholarships, and acceptances into college music programs.
Megan lives in German Village with her husband Douglas, a software engineer and trumpeter. They both are very active in the Columbus community as teachers and advocates for the arts. Together they make up The Amos Duo, a unique husband and wife chamber ensemble focused on providing uplifting and engaging performances to audiences around the midwest.
Megan has attended many prestigious summer music festivals including the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater in 2023, the Aspen Music Festival in 2016, 2017, and 2019, the National Repertory Orchestra and Lake George Music Festival in 2018, the and the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute in 2014 and 2015. Megan has embarked on two orchestral tours to Europe as principal horn with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra which included the countries of the Czech Republic, Germany, and Switzerland in 2015 and Spain in 2016.
As a soloist, Megan performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Solo Winds and Orchestra in 2017 with the Royal Conservatory’s Chamber Orchestra. In 2015, Megan was a finalist in the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute concerto competition where she performed Strauss Horn Concerto no. 1. More recently, Megan won the Aspen Music Festival Concerto Competition in July of 2019. In February of 2020, Megan performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic playing Mozart’s Horn Concerto no. 4. In September of 2022, Megan performed Strauss Horn Concerto no. 1 with the Toledo Symphony, opening up the orchestra’s subscription season at the Valentine Theater. In December of 2023, Megan performed Franz Strauss Nocturne and Mozart Concerto no. 3 with the Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra.
Megan earned her Bachelor’s of Music in 2017 from the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA where she was a student of Jamie Sommerville. Megan has also studied extensively with Adam Unsworth and trumpeter Jim Pandolfi.
