Q: How do I decide if my child is best suited for half hour or full hour lessons?
A: Age and ability are the factors that determine the length of the lesson. This will be decided after our first lesson together.
Q: How much should a student practice?
A: The key to improvement is consistent practice not quantity. When I was young, I practiced only 15 minutes – 30 minutes a day but consistently did it everyday. Now, I practice between 1 hour and 30 minutes – 3 hours.
Q: What level of students do you teach? Do you just teach kids?
A: I have taught all levels of students ranging from a young person who has never played the horn and is playing it in middle school band, to ambitious high school aged students who are preparing college entry auditions, to someone who is looking to switch from the trumpet or another instrument to the horn, to someone older who is looking to start a new hobby or hone their skill.
Q: Do you teach in-home lessons?
A: I teach lessons from my home studio in Columbus Ohio. I live centrally located in German Village. On a case by case basis, I will travel to teach lessons at the student’s home but this will require an additional fee which is negotiated with the student/parent and me.
Q: My child does not have a french horn to play, can he or she still take lessons?
A: Yes! There are many options to rent instruments locally. Contact me directly for further information.
